The Long-tailed Marmot is a large ground squirrel species found in the mountainous regions of Central Asia, particularly in the Tibetan Plateau, the Himalayas, and parts of northern India and Pakistan. It inhabits alpine meadows and rocky slopes at elevations ranging from 2,500 to 4,500 meters, where it can be seen in large colonies. This marmot has a distinctive appearance, with thick fur that ranges from light brown to reddish-brown, and a long, bushy tail, which gives it its name. Like other marmots, it is a social and diurnal animal, living in burrows that offer protection from predators and extreme weather.

The Long-tailed Marmot is primarily herbivorous, feeding on grasses, herbs, and roots, which it stores in its burrows to survive the harsh winter months. It is also known for its hibernation habits, entering a long period of dormancy during the colder months.
